TLDR
- The .PT registry requires fiscal IDs for domain owners and tech contacts.
- Each fiscal ID can only be linked to a single NIC handle.
- Domain updates including the change of the registrant's fiscal ID follow the trade procedure.
- Updates to a domain's registrant, where the fiscal ID remains unchanged, are considered updates.
.PT Registrant Updates
DNS.pt, the .PT registry, has unique handling in the domain industry in regard to registrant data and corresponding fiscal ID numbers: Each fiscal ID may only be linked to one NIC handle, regardless of the registrar.
Trades
A trade is necessary if the fiscal ID in use is to be changed. Please follow the procedure below:
- Please submit a TradeDomain command.

X-PT-OWNER-IDENTIFICATION = (TEXT) - Download the auto-generated documents from our form generator > PT > Ownerchange.
- Have the form filled, signed, etc. and add any necessary documents as detailed.
- Make sure, all documents are combined into a single PDF file (max. 10 MB), with the form and its barcode clearly visible on the first page.
- Send the file to fax@centralnicreseller.com.
- The documents will be automatically forwarded by our system to DNS.pt, where they will be processed. You will get an automated event notification about the outcome.
If you would like to trade a domain to a fiscal ID that is already in use, please make sure to use the P- or O-handle already linked to it. If this contact handle is not within the CentralNic Reseller system or is unknown to you, please contact our support team.
Owner Updates
A registrant or owner update is, when registrant data needs to be modified, e.g. when a company changes its name, but the fiscal ID stays the same. This procedure doesn't require any special API command.
- Download the necessary form from our form generator > PT > Modification.
- Have the document filled, signed etc. and add any documentary evidence as required.
- Make sure, all documents are combined into a single PDF file (max. 10 MB), with the form and its barcode clearly visible on the first page.
- Send the file to fax@centralnicreseller.com.
- The documents will be automatically forwarded by our system to DNS.pt, where they will be processed.
Please note that this only changes the data on the registry's side, not in our system. Please update any corresponding P- or O-handles accordingly.
